Welcome to my site

I'm Larry Mintoff. As owner and Design Lead for Mintoff Design, my objective is to work closely with clients, providing mentorship and guidance through the design process.  I share over 35 years of acquired talent, knowledge, and insight working within commercial and residential design disciplines. I value the relationships I cultivate with my clients, with the ultimate goal of exceeding their expectations.

Today, I focus on residential architecture and interior design.  I combine both design disciplines into a seamless approach to effective design solutions. I also work within existing built spaces, with an emphasis on renovations or simply within existing spaces that remain. I define, or redefine the living experience for people within their homes, merging Architecture and Interior design into one cohesive approach, creating functional, comfortable, and restful spaces .

Designing a home is very different than simply designing a house. A home should appeal to your senses. Comfort, security, tranquility, and emotion are what separate a home from a house. The investment in customization provides huge rewards in return.

Let me share a journey of discovery that explores how people interact and  relate to Architecture and Interior Design.  Your home is your retreat. An essential antidote to the chaos of the  exterior world we live in.

About me

My passion for designing homes evolved at an early age. Growing up in Toronto, I would look forward to the one section of the Saturday Star that captivated me, the Homes Section, when I was around 10 years old. Pullouts of new developments in "Erin Mills" or " Meadowvale" in a growing Mississauga forced an amateur critique of the urban planning, along with the house designs by my precocious self.  My Interest in Architecture and Interior design was emerging.

After 14 years in the Corporate Interior Design arena, I decided to embrace my inner childhood desire to create homes that connect people to their surroundings. Impactful design that can affect people on a very personal level. 22 years later, I have learned a great deal about people and the places they call home.

Today, I've never felt more confident as a Designer. The knowledge and wisdom acquired from 35 years of work create a sense of confidence and purpose.  The sharing of knowledge with others fulfills the desire to influence and make a difference.

Beyond work, my interests take me to places and things that feed my innate desire to see, hear, and experience all that is out there.

Education

As a graduate of Ryerson School of Interior Design (1990), my education provided the critical skills in understanding the role of design in our environment. My credentials include NCIDQ international qualifications ( Canada and USA ) as well as BCIN (Ontario Building Code ) certification.

We live in a world of design. It surrounds us. Natural, organic design. Manmade built design.  Fashion, the Arts, Graphic,  Product and Industrial Design. And for me, Architecture, Interior and Landscape design.

The bulk of my education has come from interaction with clients. Problem solving. Understanding client needs. The challenge to create the ideal space for each client. and to maintain healthy client relationships. A degree in Design is step one. The rest becomes your career path of choice.
